JTHS Alumni Spotlight: Paul Farr, Joliet East H.S. Class of 1968, Lifelong Musician and Business Owner

A lifelong musician and successful business owner, Joliet East High School alumnus Paul Farr (Class of 1968) enjoys utilizing the diverse skills and passion for learning that his high school education instilled in him.
Farr grew up in the Joliet community, having attended Edna Keith Elementary School, Laraway Grade School, and then attending Joliet East High School as part of the Class of 1968.
During his time at Joliet East, Farr excelled musically and thoroughly enjoyed his experiences in the Concert Band, Marching Band, Pep Band, Orchestra, and Musicals. Additionally, he was Quarter-master of the band during his senior year in the academic school year of 1967-1968.
Farr recognizes that his former band teacher served as an inspiration, recalling, “Marshall Erickson (1964-1980) always encouraging me and helped me develop leadership qualities. Being Quarter Master taught me organization for my future career.”
A lifelong musician, Farr continued to perform in the Joliet Junior College-Community Band beginning 1979 under the direction of Jerry Lewis, until the present day under the direction of Charles Morgan. He has also participated in the Bicentennial Park Band and several other community bands in Will County.
In addition to his lifelong commitment to music, Farr went on to pursue a career as a Certified Technical Appliance Service Advisor for major home appliance companies, a distributor for major appliance parts, and a member of several appliance service associations. A notable accomplishment that has allowed him to pursue this work has included his Certificate of Completion for Appliance Repair.
He currently enjoys working as the owner of Appliance Parts Suppliers, located on 313 Veterans Parkway in Bolingbrook, Illinois. Farr established the business in 1981 and has proudly managed it to the present day.
In addition to his musical and professional endeavors, Farr is passionate about serving the community and served as the Pastoral Assistant for First United Methodist Church in Lockport from 1998 to 2002. He also served as the Director of Music for the Choir at First United Methodist Church in Lockport from 2006 until 2014.
When asked to give advice to current students, Farr says, “Listen to your teachers. They are wise beyond their years. Be dedicated to everything you do in life and it will reward you in the future. Always be willing to give 110 percent to everything you do including helping others succeed.”
